2 down, 2 to go (my brain hates me)

We are waiting to be called in the exam room. The time goes by and we’re all telling each other how we are not ready for this and dreading the exam. Some laugh nervously, others sit in a corner and one is in the wrong place altogether. Seriously, he’s meant to be somewhere else for a different exam but he doesn’t know. He realises he should had gone in with the previous group and tries to convince us that we are all wrong and it is us who are waiting in the wrong place. He goes to check and we never see him again.

Then one of the examiners opens the doors to let us in to the room. We all take our seats and so I choose a desk as far away from people as possible. Today everything seems more informal, it is a smaller room than last week’s and the examiners are not as uptight. We sit down and within 5 minutes we are casually told that we can now start.

I begin to read.

1. This question is on UML and OCL, the…

-Candymaaaaaaaaan! Hey! Candy Maaaaaan!

- No, this can’t be happening. I thought it was over!

- Who can take the sunriiiiise?

- No! No! Shut up!

the Object Constraint Language. The following type diagram represents a…

- Sprinkle it with dewwww…

- Arghhh! Stop it!

- Cover it with chocolate and a miracle or twoooo

- This is not good.

I keep reading through the rest of the questions and try to answer what I can while this plays over and over in my head.

- The candy man can ’cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste goooooood…

By the second hour of the exam I have surrendered to the madness. My feet now move along to the full on band going off in my head in dolby surround.

- Talk about your childhood wishes, you can even eat the dishes!

How can you be upset about doing crappy on an exam when you have this song in your head?

- Who can take the rainbow (who can take the rainboooow)
Wrap it in a sigh (wrap it in a siiiiigh)
Soak it in the sun
And make a groovy lemon pie?

Yes, there were backing vocals too. Why does my brain hate me? Why won’t the voices in my head stop torturing me at the worst possible times?

  1. Bless ya hun. That happens to me everytime I have to take a test of some sort. Never that song in particular thank God but it’s usually something as equally ridiculous.

  2. I am sorry you did crappy on your exam, but I really enjoyed laughing my arse off here today….with you, not at you of course. You are laughing right?

  3. It could have been worse…it might have been THX Surround or DTS. :)

Honestly though when your brain starts to do that it’s usually because you are trying to focus too hard and the mind needs the background clutter to help it focus.

Or…you could just hate your brain back and PUNISH it with Alchohol! But yeah…the second thing mostly.

  4. lol I would pay to see you sitting in a classroom tapping your feet and possibly chair dancing to music. sometimes while I am taking exams I start laughing because I am thinking of all my friends and something silly. haha

  6. In “Song Stuck in Head” News…at an LJ Community I frequent I Titled a Post “Madness” and now I have Iron Maiden’s ‘Can I play with Madness” stuck in my head.

  7. Lady Jaye :: It’s happened before with “it was an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini…” ooooover and ooooooooover… It was even worse!

melanie :: Oh I am laughing. I can’t help but laugh. The other option would be to get really angry about not doing well on my exam. I’m glad it made you laugh.

Abraxus :: You’re right but my brain is old school it likes Dolby Surround. I don’t know why but I haven’t been able to concentrate much the past couple of days. I can’t wait for Friday. I can drink then because I’ll be done then. Isn’t it horrible how songs get stuck in your head and you can’t get them out? Gah!

Heather :: It happens to me too sometimes. My mind sometimes drifts off and I find myself on the verge of bursting with laughter. I tend to imagine the most ridiculous scenarios while trying to focus on the exam… That sucks too.

Dickie Maxx :: I am really sorry. That was not my intention. You can start singing the “it’s a small world after all” song which will replace the candy man song. Of course after that you’ll have to find another song to replace that one and so on. It’s a vicious circle my friend.

  8. It’s funny you mention “It’s a Small World.” I have lived near Disneyland for years and would go there a couple of times a month. Not only do I avoid that section of the park every time I go, I have determined that if I ever need to torture someone the song “It’s a Small World” would be the cornerstone of my torture method.

  9. Dickie Maxx :: Oh I went to disneyland many years ago (the one in Paris) and I couldn’t get that song out of my head for months! I’m serious! It was very bad! Your other option is “blame it on the boogie”.

  10. First exam, offensive smell. Second exam, dolby stereo.

I’m beginning to see some kind of sensory pattern developing.

  11. That only happens to me at night sometimes, when I have trouble sleeping. So tonight I get to hear “Candyman”. Thanks a fucking LOT, man.

  12. “It’s a Small World” Gaaaahhhhh! You had to say it. Didn’t you? I though I was immune to your sorcery until, then.

  14. That was the funniest thing I’ve read all day. Excellent!

The Candyman can … After all
It’s a small world because he makes the world taste good

  15. Musing :: You’re right! It scares me to think of what’s to come!

annie :: I am sorry, I didn’t mean to get that stuck in your head too. Try singing 99 bottles of beer! This way you won’t have candy man stuck in your head and it’s better than counting sheep.

    Etienne :: Oooops! Sorryyyyyy! :evil:

tori :: Oh I never thought about counting backwards! I’ll try that although there’s not much time to spend counting during an exam… Good tip, cheers!

cybrpunk :: I’m glad you enjoyed it. Did you just combine the two songs together? That could be a deadly combination!
