going back in time with mondayz tunez #22
It’s almost 6am here and I can’t fall asleep. Insomnia has kicked my ass again. I tried but it didn’t work. I just can’t sleep tonight. There are thoughts in my head tonight and lots of them. I accidentally played a song that made me reminisce about when things were simpler and I had no cares in the world.
Uni coursework was not an issue and even if it was I didn’t seem to care about it. I didn’t have a boyfriend and I didn’t mind. I was out having fun and enjoying myself as often as I could. It was my second year in Brighton and I had just come out of an almost year-long depression. I just let everything go and had fun. But you see, things were going very well for almost a year and that doesn’t sit well with my karma.
After finally feeling free to enjoy myself, finding the right friends to hang out with and eventually finding a boyfriend things started going downhill. I started having very big problems with my housemate, had a bad break-up and I decided to slow down. Actually, it was a combination of a decision and other factors like getting back to studying and finally finding a part time job where I worked on a regular basis and not just once a month. Being the emotional person that I am, the break-up had affected me more than I wanted to admit. I stopped going out as often. I did not want to meet anyone new. I was only interested in making new friends and it was enough. It actually fulfilled me and I didn’t feel I was missing anything but things were not as great as the year before.
Since then, things have been slowing down even more and lately they’ve come to a screeching halt. However, I know that everything will get better. I have to believe this otherwise the depression will get so bad I won’t be able to get out of bed again. I sound worse than I feel and I hate it. I am a happy person and I can’t stand to see myself break down or get depressed about small things.
To use the lyrics of the song; I will always get up after a nosebleed and I will jump into puddles again.
Hey, look! It’s raining outside!
I give you Hoppípolla by Sigur Rós: (I am putting the video before the audio because the video makes the song even better and you should definitely watch it)
Update: I have replaced the old video I had with the HQ version of it. It was a bitch to get it to embed but I found a hack for it and you can now enjoy it in it’s full glory (well at least fuller than before).

mondayz tunez #21 :: oh, my body, oh so tired
I have missed Mondayz Tunez the past couple of weeks because of issues with hosting and being busy with coursework. Since I’m on guest hosting right now by the wonderful Yoshi until I get everything sorted and move to my own hosting, I don’t want to post things that will kill his bandwidth. So we’re going to do this a little different this week. I will only post the video of the song via YouTube!
I have had this song stuck in my head since yesterday (I blame my brother for sending it to me). My French is too horrible to understand most of the lyrics but I’m loving this song. I admit it is a little depressing but I love it. It’s also a very weird combination. It’s French rap with vocals by James Blunt. I never thought I’d like a song like this but damn, it’s catchy!
I give you Je réalise from Sinik featuring James Blunt:

mondayz tunez #20 :: one of the many songs we both like
How about a delayed addition to my series of Mondayz Tunez? Yes, I thought you’d want to hear another one. For this week (and next week) I didn’t just choose a song I like. I chose a song WE like. By we, I mean my best friend and I as she is visiting me in Brighton and will be staying over this and the next week.
This week we chose one song we both like and which she originally sent me a few months ago. It has no story behind it and it does not remind us of something in specific. It is simply a song which we both loved from the first time we heard it.
I give you Your Ghost from Kristen Hersh and Michael Stipe (Yes, the guy from R.E.M.):

mondayz tunez #19 :: i want to be somewhere warmer
Last week I did not post a Monday Tune and I was considering not posting one today either, I think this series of posts may be dying slowly. I have not decided yet but for now I’ll keep it but let me know if you enjoy these posts or not. Please note that the site is still not sending out notifications to subscribers for new comments - I’m still trying to fix this.
This has been a very sucky Monday (weather-wise at least). It’s been raining and the wind makes it impossible to hold an umbrella. It important to mention here that I am not speculating. I had to take care of some chores around town this morning and I got soaked as I gave up on my umbrella after the first 4 steps in the wind. I decided on this song just so I could cheer me up as it helps me pretend I am somewhere warmer or that I am just chilling with a cocktail at the beach while the sun is shining.
I give you Pata Pata from Miriam Makeba in two versions (I prefer the first one though):
original:

and the 2000 version:

mondayz tunez #18 :: time after…time
As promised with my return, the Mondayz Tunez returns as well! This a bit of a themed song (title-wise). Over the past few months I have been on and off the blogging scene but time after time I make a fabulous comeback!
Now, I don’t want to say much about this song, so no music history lessons today. I will only say one thing. This song always reminds me of Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and particularly the dance scene (follow the link to see it) which is my favourite part.
As you may notice this is not the original version. It is actually DJ Sammy’s Time After Time Remix which is more suitable for a Monday. I don’t want to put you guys to sleep and this remix has a little more energy.
So without any further delay I give you Time After Time from DJ Sammy (a cover of Cyndi Lauper)

mondayz tunez #17 :: accidental success
I am back after a week of silence with another one of my Mondayz Tunez!
This week we have a fantastic One Hit Wonder by White Town (aka Jyoti Mishra) called Your Woman:
[audio:White Town - Your Woman.mp3]
The track ‘Your Woman’ was written and recorded in Mishra’s bedroom and was picked up by chance by then Radio 1 DJ Mark Radcliffe. After playing the track on his show, sales went though the roof, selling 47,000 copies in the UK and over 450,000 in the US. I think it deserved more because it is such an amazing song.
I hope you enjoy this week’s track and don’t forget to visit Luka tomorrow for another dose of weekly tunes.

mondayz tunez #16 :: take it like a man baby
Now time for a change of tempo and to bring it closer to our decade. This week I have chosen a song designed to make everyone dance. If you don’t feel like dancing when hearing this then there must me something wrong with you and you should go see a doctor about it.
This week’s addition to the Mondayz Tunez collection is M People with Moving On Up:

I hope you enjoy this week’s track and don’t forget to visit Luka tomorrow for another dose of weekly tunes.

mondayz tunez #15 :: electric blue for me
I’m having a surprisingly energetic Monday! I have managed to take care of a few things that have been on my To Do list for a week now! So before I head to meet up with a few friends for a coffee I took a few minutes to post this week’s Mondayz Tunez!
It was inspired by my energy levels, as you can imagine, even though I haven’t had a coffee all day! How awesome is that?
I give you OMD(Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark) with Electricity:
[audio:OMD - Electricity.mp3]
This song was first released in 1979 (wow) and the band has made 4 (wow) different versions so far. No matter how much the band has tried this song never made it to a good chart position but it is very well known. I hope you enjoy it.

mondayz tunez #14 :: i’m so glad i found you
Ladies and lads I am finally back in Brighton! I arrived on Thursday and spent every moment since then with my wonderful boyfriend so I didn’t gave the chance to post anything.
On one of our outings for dinner this song was playing in the background and it was very romantic as at the time we were talking about my new found stress (over many different things) and he was being very understanding and supportive. As this song was playing I realised it had been possibly years since the last time I heard it and how much I actually liked it. I started humming it and the song was eventually stuck in my head for the rest of the evening. Usually it is annoying when that happens but this time it wasn’t.
So for this week’s Mondayz Tunez, I give you Starship with Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now:
[audio:Starship - Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now.mp3]
I hope you like this song even though it’s slightly cheesy. It was originally released in 1987 and was featured as the theme song for the film Mannequin (more cheese). It was also covered by the punk band The Starting Line in 2001. I don’t particularly like their version of the song because I find the tempo to be changing with every verse which I find annoying.
Don’t forget to visit Luka and Yoshi tomorrow for another dose of weekly music!

mondayz tunez #13 :: slow down you’re gonna crash
I had a weird Monday as I spent most of it sleeping after a long Sunday night so I’m a little late in posting the latest in my series of Mondayz Tunez.
This week, we’re going for something not as old as last week’s song. It was first released in 1988 but I am posting the ‘95 mix of the song which contains additional guitars, percussion, organ and backing vocals none of which were performed by the original band. I decided to post this version as you can find the original version in the video below.
I give you The Primitives with Crash (the 95 mix):
[audio:The Primitives - Crash.mp3]
This version is from the Dumb & Dumber movie which is one of my favourites (I heart Jim Carrey’s humour) but there have been many covers of this song over the years. Still, nothing beats the original. I hope you enjoy this. Have a great week you internets!
Don’t forget to visit Luka and Yoshi tomorrow for another dose of weekly music!
