excuses for my absence

I have been away for a whole week. Inexcusable, I know, but here are some of the excuses for my absence anyway…

Last week was the last week for submissions of our Final Year Projects at the University. One of the many problems with me is that I’m heavily into procrastination and I leave things until the last minute. After a 2-day long adventure of finding a supervisor for my project then loosing them and finding someone else only to find that he wasn’t around or no longer worked at the University (yes, it’s not a very well organised University) and then being referred to someone else I finally managed to find the perfect supervisor (only a few hours before the deadline). Then we proceeded to discuss the project and we ended up changing it completely leaving me with one hour left to write a two page proposal before having him sign everything and make it official.

Needless to say that I spent these 2 days completely stressed and moodswingy (yes it’s a word because I say so). I felt like taking Friday off just to relax which I did but at the same time I had my new toy arrive on Monday which monopolised my attention on Friday (well the other days too but I didn’t spend these days doing nothing else). Check it out!

my new iMac :: 24″ baby!!!

That’s right! A 24″ iMac! I finally have a computer that works and it works so darn well and fast! It’s pretty, sexy and shiny!

It is my first Apple computer and I am still getting used to OS X so I’m not doing everything as quickly as I would have if I was using Windows but it’s so worth it.

As part of the offer they gave me a new iPod nano (3rd gen) for free which is extremely beautiful. I never thought I would own an iPod as I would never buy one. I don’t like following the trends but I admit it is an amazing gadget. It’s tiny, slim and beautiful.

Enough about my new toys. Now, on Friday I didn’t stay in all day I spent a good few hours out with different friends having coffee but Saturday was the big day. I spent the day with Mr. Boyfriend; we did some shopping, had lunch, went to the cinema and then for a drink where we were joined by another friend of mine. Unfortunately Mr. Boyfriend had to leave early and after dropping him off at the station my friend and I went back to a bar where he eventually convinced me to go clubbing with him.

I hadn’t gone to a club in more than a month and when I go clubbing I tend to dance, like, a LOT. I enjoyed the night and the dancing very much but I spent most of Sunday feeling sore. I am not delusional, I know very well how unfit I am and I knew this was coming but I feel like I should really do something about it. I don’t think my schedule will allow me to go to the gym properly so maybe I should at least start going out clubbing more often. It counts as a workout, right?

  1. 24″ - jeezuz wet - you have joined the cult in a BIG way

i have to say, i don’t like the wireless keyboard that you have there - its just feels as if something is missing.
don’t get to into 10.4, as there will be quite a few changes in 10.5, which you can get for a fiver or something.
if you need any advice on programs, widgets let me know.
I’ve just gotten another airport express and a set of kardon creatures for the kitchen, so i can stream my audio output in there :)
you should get the free flip4mac - play windoze in Quicktime
    Transmission for erm ,bit torrents
the gmail notifier for the top bar
reader notifier if you use google reader for rss - i don’t like safari rss feed
poisoned for finding files on the net
journler - you’ll wonder how you lived without it…. well i did anyway
    real player for the BBC
I can give you the registration key for iWorks 06 if you want it, as i have moved on to iWorks 08
Audio hijack for well hijacking audio (not free)
if you text a lot i can recommend emitSMS (widget) for sending them from your phone via the computer & bluetooth

Welcome to the cult - there is only one way out…….lol

  2. I really did! In fact, I joined it in a big AND powerful way. I’m posting this from a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme iMac. I haven’t upgraded to 4GB of RAM yet but I plan to do so soon. :D

I really like the keyboard but it’s missing some vital keys that I used a lot. I guess I’ll have to find what the shortcuts for these are before I go mad…

I have preordered Leopard (for £5) already. I was very lucky. I ordered my iMac on the 1st of October which is from when the offer for the discounted Leopard counts.

Thanks for all the advice on apps for the mac. It turns out I made some good choices already! I have most of them with the exception of Journler and Audio Hijack. I decided not to go with Transmission and chose Azureus instead until an OS X version of uTorrent comes out. I also installed limewire instead of Poisoned as I’m trying to take things one step at a time and learn one program at a time. It’s already overwhelming enough. I also don’t use an RSS reader yet. I prefer to visit the actual websites instead even if it takes longer.

iWorks ‘08 came with my iMac anyway and I don’t need to pay extra for it so thanks for the offer of the key but I don’t really need it.

I already have emitSMS (although I haven’t started using it yet), Gmail notifier, flip4mac, RealPlayer, VLC, Adium, Think, Caffeine, Firefox (because I don’t like Safari - at least not yet), SimplyBurns, HandBrake, Alarm Clock 2, Skype and I’m sure I’m forgetting a few.

I am downloading Journler now. It sounds like an awesome piece of software.

Thanks for welcoming me to the cult, I am afraid though that I will always be a Windows fanboy deep inside only because I know how to use them so well.
