abdominal pain and whatnot
Something’s officially wrong with my stomach. I’ve been in pain since Sunday night when I got home from a night out. Actually I was in discomfort from before I got home but when I arrived that’s when things got really bad. For a good 3-4 hours there was no position I could be in and not feel pain. I thought it would make me feel better if I threw up but I couldn’t so I decided to just go back to my bed and try to sleep. It worked for a while and even though I kept waking up during the night I managed to sleep until Monday afternoon. Thankfully yesterday was a bank holiday in UK so I wasn’t working. I spent most of yesterday in bed feeling a little better but still in pain. The situation has not changed since yesterday but I came to work today as if nothing was wrong. Because I figured, I might as well get paid to feel like this.
The pain is not very specific. It feels like I exercised my abs a little too much but I haven’t been to the gym in years so that can’t be it… When it first started it was like my muscles in that area where in spasm. That’s why I couldn’t relieve the pain by sitting in any normal or weird position. What I hate about it now is that I can’t laugh or stand up without being in pain.
That’s incredibly annoying for me since the one thing I love doing the most is laughing and I do it really often. On the other hand walking seems to anger it as well. While I was walking to work this morning (I live within walking distance to work) I thought to myself “This is what it must feel like to walk through the valley of the shadow of death” so I started laughing quietly. That made the pain stronger and my laughing even harder until I had to hold my breath (to stop laughing) because I couldn’t stand the pain anymore.
I really hope this goes away soon. I hate it.

me (aka “anonymous lurker”) :: it hurts both times but it actually hurts a little bit more when I let go. Why? What does this mean? Am I going to die? Say something! Tell me! Are my days numbered doc? Why won’t you look me straight in the eye? *bows*
Hugh said:okey dokey, well if you\’re still alive, you really should goto your GP or A&E as it soundsl ike your appendix - its a indicator if it hurts when you let go - hence the question but no clue as to which was right

Hugh said:as you can see i\’m thinking 20 seconds behind typing - you may have whats called a grumbling appendix, get irritated then settles down, then flares up, but either way, you should see your GP - this is my NHS disclaimer, and its also
a. hard to diagnose things over t\’ net
b. bloody dangerous to diagnose over t\’net
BUT if the it gets worse in the mean time, you should take yourself to A&E

Colin Brooks said:Thank you for all your advice! I’m really grateful. Thankfully the pain is gone now but if I feel even the slightest thing I’m going straight to the doctor. The pain was not just near the appendix though, it was all over the abdominal area. Never mind now. I’m feeling fine.
Thanks again.

funnily enough, not everybody’s appendix is where you think yours should be (right iliac fossa in medical speak)
