i have the dreaded lurgy
Ew and yuk and *cough* and *sneeze* and “head hurts” and “stomach hurts from all the coughing”…etc.
I’ve been like this since Tuesday night. I went out for a few pints, like you do, with one of my colleagues and I ended up a little drunk because I drunk 5 pints when I’m not used to drinking beer any more. I came home to eat some junk food, like you do, to help with the drunkenness and went to bed. I got up at 4 with a terrible headache and threw up my guts, like you do. I, then, got up at 5 and threw up for a second time stuff that I thought I had already gotten rid of in the first round, like you do. I got up at 5:30 to throw up stuff that weren’t there, like you do. I got up at 6 to throw up again since, you know, my body thought I actually could throw up my stomach itself. I waited until 8:30 to call work and tell them I was sick. I started thinking this was not a hangover or the alcohol that was doing this to me. It was food poisoning.
Then it all went downhill from there. “How can it go downhill when things are already that bad?”, I hear you ask. It’s simple:
That day passed and I decided to go to work the following morning despite the fact that I was feeling too weak to even walk. Throughout the day I kept getting worse and worse and I am sure that I had a fever by lunch time (if not before then). I was really patient and thought that since I had made it that far I might as well stay until the end of the day. Bad choice. By the end of the day I was so weak I could hardly walk, speak or even smile.
I went home and found out I had a fever. I sent my brother to the supermarket to get me the ingredients I needed to make a soup. I made the soup (since my brother is not so good with cooking) and after I had a bowl I went to bed. I was so tired the next morning that I could hardly speak so I had my brother call work for me to tell them I wasn’t going. This was Friday. I figured that this will give me 3 days (including the weekend) to get better.
Things didn’t get better until today. My fever has started to go down and my energy levels have started to rise (probably because of all the “non-drowsy” medicine, I’ve been taking) but now my voice is going and I can’t stop coughing. Also a couple of minutes ago, I sneezed so hard that I almost dislocated something!
Anyway, I am hoping that I’ll be feeling well enough in the morning to go to work but we’ll have to wait and see.
P.S.: I really need a shower! (and shave)
