alive and blogging

No, not dead, not deported, not bumped, not in a coma. I’m alive, still in lovely Brighton, Adrian has been helping out so this blog doesn’t die, and all that coffee I’ve drunk will never allow me to go into a coma.

The reason for my absence was work and social activities that kept me away from a computer on my free time. Last weekend I had a couple of friends coming over from London and since it had been a while since I last cleaned the house I spent every free minute I had after work cleaning and tidying up. In fact, in one occasion I cleaned so vigorously that I was actually sore the next day!

Then the weekend came and since I was entertaining full time, I had no time to myself. Please note; I am not complaining! I had an amazing time and the house did need to be cleaned so this was a good excuse. At least now I can keep it clean which is not as much work.

We went out on Saturday night to Javu (a newly reopened bar) which is quite nice and less chavy than what I expected. However the music that night was not very good. I don’t know what the DJ was on but it was dull beyond belief or reason. So we left to go to the Funky Buddha Lounge which I must say even though it was crowded and extremely hot we had an amazing time. It may have took us a while queueing before getting in but the music was far better than in Javu and I danced 3 months worth of fat off.

The plan for the next day was to get up early, go shopping, then go eat and then go out to watch the fireworks as that was the last day of the Brighton Festival. Instead, we got up late went out for lunch, then came home soaked from the rain, opened up some wine, brought out the cheese platter and put on a music video channel on tv. As time went by friends started coming by and we had an informal small house party which was in no way planned. Monday afternoon, my friends left but I still had to catch up with some of my local friends so I ended up out again until midnight.

After all this, a very hectic week at work was expected. Bank Holidays usually mean that we have to squeeze that lost day in to a 4-day week in order to keep up with deadlines and client demands. As if that wasn’t enough, I passed an exam for a qualification that enables me to do some extra work which is now on top of everything else I used to do. What all this means is that I have a lot more responsibilities and almost twice the amount of stuff to do. It’s not necessarily a bad thing as I enjoy the work I do and the environment there however on Wednesday I was so determined to finish something I had started that day that I ended up staying at the office until 8:30 in the evening which rendered me braindead and coffee was the only thing that kept me standing. I went home, crashed in bed and on Thursday I got up an hour early so I could go an hour early to work on that same thing as I hadn’t managed to finish it the day before. By the end of Thursday I was left with swiss cheese for brains which, to be perfectly honest, was anticipated and perfectly justified.

So Friday came and taking advantage of a colleague’s birthday and using it as an excuse I went out for drinks after work. I don’t remember how much I drunk (I got a little tipsy) but it was so rewarding! You know how when you’re upset or frustrated or just fed up with something you always decide to take it out on your liver? Well that was the case here and damn, was it satisfying.

So this weekend I consciously decided to spend it inside without any drinking or any unnecessary exercise. Which is the reason I finally managed to find the time to post something AND I also created a new masthead for the blog. Let’s hope that I’ll manage to post more often from now on…
