blogathon ‘07 kickoff! child abuse awareness post #1
Okay! I’m excited, I’m hyper, I’m not hangover but I’m so nervous…
Welcome to therapy in the making! Starting now I will be blogging for 24 hours, every 30 minutes for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. You can sponsor me at any point and no matter how much you pledge you will be included in the prize draw that I’ll perform live for you at the end of the 24 hours. Also Adrian will be guest blogging later to save my brain from total meltdown so stay tuned!
Why you should sponsor me? Here’s why:
NSPCC research shows that a significant minority of children suffer serious abuse or neglect:
- 7% of children experienced serious physical abuse at the hands of their parents or carers during childhood
- 1% of children experienced sexual abuse by a parent or carer and another 3% by another relative during childhood
- 11% of children experienced sexual abuse by people known but unrelated to them. 5% of children experienced sexual abuse by an adult stranger or someone they had just met’
- 6% of children experienced serious absence of care at home during childhood
- 6% of children experienced frequent and severe emotional maltreatment during childhood
Cruelty to children must stop, FULL STOP. By sponsoring me your money will go towards the FULL STOP campaign which, among other things, is:
- raising awareness of cruelty to children
- changing attitudes and behaviours
- safeguarding children and developing professional practice
- developing services for children and their families
- changing law(s) and social policy
Thanks for your attention, I will be posting more facts and figures about the campaign and issues as this is not only a fund-raising event for me but also and opportunity to raise awareness.
A huge thank you to my sponsors so far! Who are: (in no particular order)
Yoshi
Hugh
Laci
Sarah
