smoking

I know this is not the freshest of news but I’ve been wondering for almost a year:

At what point did Madonna say “It’s time to reinvent myself again” (you know since her old reinvented self was so last year) and then when she came up with “I’ll come back wearing a leotard” everyone thought it was “cool”? I could never understand it!

Sorry but I had to get this off my chest. Back to the normal posting:

On the 1st of July England banned smoking inside all public areas from pubs to offices. I never agreed with the idea of not allowing the owner of a business to decide on this subject. Smoking is “baaaaad”, everyone knows this, and it is not a laughing subject when you think of what it does to someone’s body. Isn’t it a little silly legalising a certain drug and then bringing in a ban on smoking? Neither of them is a healthy thing to do.

I would much rather them banning selling cigarettes instead! If they were doing this to improve the health of the nation then it seems a little silly that while they admit that smoking causes all these terrible diseases that it causes, they allow people to smoke them but just not indoors. They should be banned completely.

Now as you know, I am a smoker. I used to be a heavy smoker (20 cigarettes a day). Lately I’ve been trying to give up which is going very well. I know that I can quit it completely if I really put my heart into it as well. However, I have tried quitting cold turkey before and it didn’t work. Since I have associated smoking with certain activities (drinking coffee, socialising, drinking alcohol) I decided I should work on this first. I have successfully gone out and not smoked at all. I have managed drinking coffee and not smoking and have limited my smoking to 2-3 cigarettes a day and only when I’m at home. I refuse to use a nicotine patch (that will be my last resort) as I believe I am not addicted to the nicotine. I am addicted to the habit of lighting up when I have nothing else to with my hands and when stressed.

This week I was really stressed and managed to not smoke. However, this took willpower and with blogathon taking up all my willpower I decided that not smoking during it was not the best idea as I wouldn’t be able to think of anything else. So only until the end of it I will be smoking and after that I going back to my limited allowance of fags.

  1. So funny…

My pet is a smoker, and she too decided that she wasn’t giving it up until the end of the ‘Thon. She too thinks it’s bleeping hilarious that a legal drug is now being banned legally. Isn’t that what one would call “an oxymoron”? Perhaps it’s “a paradox”?

Perhaps it’s too late for me to have deep thoughts…

Nonetheless, keep up the fantastic work for your charity!

P.S. I might have to bookmark this blog so I can remember to visit afterwards! Awesome site!

  2. the government, certainly in the UK i think, are stuck between a rock and a hard place - the sales of cigarettes generates billions in taxes, but the sales are also costing the NHS billions too, in smoking related diseases - their rationale i think is to reduce at least in non smokers, the threat of those diseases, and also get the nation to stop smoking.
it is ironic that if tobacco was invented today, it would never be allowed.

one way to stop, is too reduce the amount of cigarettes you smoke, say by 1 a day or something achievable, the body is less likely to miss the drug and you less likely to be used to having something in your hands.

it is tragic that the ban actually caused a death, when James Oyebola asked some kids to stop smoking, and one of them decided to shoot him, because he “disrespected them” - the world has gone potty. he had many boxing friends, who are all shall we say, build like outhouses - as one of them said, “lets hope the police find them before we do”
