you don’t need proof to know there is such a thing as gaydar…

Have you read this? Sexual Orientation Revealed by Body Type and Motion, Study Suggests

So essentially what they did is research if gaydar really exists? It’s articles like this which upset me. What is the use of such a research? Did you read their justification?

“Studies like ours are raising questions about the value of the military’s ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy. If casual observers can determine sexual orientation with minimal information, then the value in concealing this information certainly appears questionable. Given that we all appear to be able to deduce this information to some degree with just a glance, more comprehensive policies may be required to protect gays against discrimination based on their sexual orientation.”

Did they really need to conduct a research to find out that some gays have very easy to spot mannerisms? “Don’t ask don’t tell” policy? Are they kidding themselves?

One Response to “you don’t need proof to know there is such a thing as gaydar…”

  1. Well I agree with you that it’s pretty common sense, very girly (camp/effeminate) guys are pretty easy to pick as being gay. That being said, studying this phonema hopefully will lead to some sort of gain in knnowledge, and if we’re lucky, it will do exactly what the researchers had hoped for: “to protect gays against discrimination based on their sexual orientation.”

As for lesbians, I too find it harder to pick them. I think part of the reason is that I don’t look for them; and possibly another part is that in this age where we are encouraging equality for both genders it’s mroe aceptable for females to be mroe masculine. An example of this: If a woman was to wear pants no one would bat an eyelid, if you were to see a man in a skirt in your office you might pay a little more attention.

IMHO some straight men look at gay men with some fear and trepidation, IMHO they seem to fear that for once they may be in a situation where they may be taken advantage of sexually. Of course this is just my theory, if I were to make a compelling argument about it then I’d have to cinduct a study like these researchers. ;)
