it turns out I’m not too old for rock concerts
Last night I went to see Linkin Park play live for the first time. I have managed to miss every one of their shows the past few years in the UK and before I left for my holidays in Greece I happened to see that they’d be playing in Athens when I’d be here too. I had no choice but to buy a ticket.
I was planning to make a full and proper post but I have eaten way too much to be able to form paragraphs.
So let me make a list here:
- Linkin Park live = amazing
- Some guys smell very bad
- Some girls smell worse than guys
- Everyone around me managed to grab my ass at some point
- The girl in front of me didn’t smell (thank goat)
- That girl, however, fancied me
- I pretended to be oblivious to avoid outing myself in a very homophobic crowd
- I hate guys who crowd surf when they’re too big to do something like that
- I hate them more for wearing the biggest boots known to giants and for not showering
- I am not a fan of mosh pits
- I always find myself in a mosh pit and have to fight my way out and to safety
What I noticed is that a lot of the Greek people are extremely rude and should not be allowed to concerts. They booed the support band shouting homophobic remarks. They also threw bottles at them and anything else they had available (like the hats given out at the entrance). What makes it even worse is that the supporting band was The Blackout and these guys are actually pretty good! They are from the UK, have played in Brighton a couple of times and they have great energy on stage. I cannot excuse this kind of behaviour especially when it’s not justified. Anyways, I really liked The Blackout but I LOVED Linkin Park. I took 3 photos of Linkin Park on stage but it was too dark when they finally came out for the show and my phone doesn’t take good photos at night without flash. Instead, I managed to take a short video of the song they played before last because everyone was too tired to move too much and it wasn’t a mosh kind of song either so I was able to hold my phone over my head and not fall down.
Linkin Park :: What I’ve done (Live in Greece)
Because the quality of my video sucks I looked up a few other videos from the same night and I’m posting them below (after the jump):

Commented on June 27th, 2008 at 2:23 amomg I am a big fan girl when it comes to Linkin Park. I spent a long college year listening to Hybrid Theory on repeat. If I liked boys I would totally dig Chester Bennington with his nerdy angst.
Commented on June 27th, 2008 at 3:24 pmSooo jealous you got to see them live, and in Greece no less!
Debbie :: I spent many years listening to Hybrid Theory on repeat back in school (when it had first come out) then I thought I’d move on. I realised last night that I still remember all the lyrics! Now I know what I did with my memory during those last years of school since I don’t remember anything that was taught. It also explains why my exam results sucked so much back then…
Too bad for the BO, great for linkin park. I’d love to check them out in concert.
it just irritates me that people should smell pretty badly. Of course I can understand smelling like booze but BO is just horrible. That’s nuts
Commented on June 27th, 2008 at 6:26 pmI used to love Linkin Park but haven’t listened to them in the past couple of years. Don’t know why, guess I just became obsessed with other bands. Now that I watched the videos…I’m getting out my Linkin Park and putting it on the iTunes player.
Glad you went but sorry you had to deal with BO and flying bottles.
You are NEVER to old to rock
Commented on June 27th, 2008 at 6:30 pmI went to the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, once…..(I bet the animals smelled better than the Greeks did, too.)
Commented on June 28th, 2008 at 6:03 amEnjoy Greece!
That’s awesome that you got to see a concert while traveling. Especially when it’s such a good band. Too bad about the crowd though. So I’m guessing the spoke English?
Commented on June 28th, 2008 at 6:54 amLisa :: Well nothing will ever come close to their first album but most of their songs are really good.
Etienne :: I haven’t been to a zoo lately but I imagine the animals would indeed smell better. Thanks!
cybrpunk :: They were saying these things in English so that the band members would hear. That’s how horrible they were. And when they were booing them they were holding their middle fingers up in the air to make sure the band got the message. I could not believe it! I can’t imagine what these guys on stage felt like. There were some people that yelled trying to stop the rest from booing and it seemed to work for a bit but they eventually gave up.
OOO! I like Linkin Park!
