Topic :: My First Job
When it comes to having a job I haven’t had a lot of them. I did a few part time things at the University on my first and second year but they were too part time to be considered jobs. The first job I got (which I considered to be an actual job) was at the University as a Computer Helper. I was essentially the go-to guy at the computer labs in the library whenever something wasn’t working well or when students could not figure out how to do something themselves. My hours were usually in the evenings and I usually had a lot of time to kill.
I kept that job for the whole academic year, as planned, and I only did it because I wanted to have something on my CV besides grades. The money was very good for the hours I was doing but in total it was not enough to cover much. It was still exciting though. I was given real responsibility and was in charge of the whole library building, when it came to computers, while I was there. I also kept the job until the end not because it filled me with a sense of accomplishment but because I wanted to prove to myself that I was able to find a job, get a job and most of all keep a job. For those who have been reading this blog for a while, you will probably have noticed that I am one of those people that leave things unfinished only because I get bored of them and I wanted to prove that even though it was a very dull job with not much money, I could stick it out until the very end. That job didn’t change me as much as my first full time job did but it certainly made me appreciate even more what my parents have been doing all these years for me.
