I’m So Vain

I am sitting here, watching myself on webcam, thinking, damn, my new haircut looks good (today was the first day I styled it myself). Then I thought, d’oh! You are totally missing the point. Here I am, spending several hours out of my Saturday writing blog posts here and there, trying to raise money for a good cause … when there are so many people out there, even in my own community, who are struggling to find money to eat that day, let alone drop the cash to get their hair cut/colored/highlighted. So here’s some non-me-related information:

Doctors Without Borders doesn’t provide just traditional medical care. They treat victims of sexual violence, provide assistance with mental health, care for those infection with HIV/AIDS, and assist the malnourished, among many, many other things. This link — to the top 10 underreported humanitarian stories of the year — was especially sobering.

Now that I’m sufficiently chastised, I am going to brew up a cup of coffee to enjoy. I won’t even mention that I have a Keurig single-cup machine instead of a basic $20 coffeepot. LOL Small steps, right?
